Herman Cain, Good for the Black community?

Al Sharpton criticized Herman Cain for not reaching out to black communities. It's one thing to be a businessman and not support others of like race, but if you're planning on being the voice, the representative and champion of a nation, why would you not want to appeal to those who share your ethnic background as well as those who share your other traits? I'm wondering if he sees other blacks as a stigma and stumbling block to get to where he thinks he needs to be. That is does he feel that aligning himself with the black community will lose his credibility and support from wealthy white supporters?
